Nicole's Review
Catalina’s Collection on Earth’s Aquatic Biomes is very thorough. She includes resources that discuss what a biome is as seen in the Biome Is Where the Art Is and that give a lesson plan that discusses a lesson that can be used as seen in the same article. She then has more of a focus on Estuaries with the book chapter called Estuaries— Where the Rivers Meet the Sea and the journal article Journey to the Reef. This gives the reader information on specific aquatic biomes. Then she focuses further by adding the journal article called A Fishy Adventure. Finally she finished off her collection with a science object on biomes called Interdependence of Life: Population Balance in Biomes to give students a review and a scipack on Coral Reef Ecosystems which gives the students a review on a specific biome that she focused on. My favorite resource in Catalina’s collection was the journal article A Fishy Adventure. This article is a comprehensive activity that can be done with your class. The idea of the lesson is to teach students about clean water and how things like runoff effects animals like fish. The activity gives so many modifications and adjustments that you could use it in any grade level, or adjust it to any curriculum for another subject which is what makes it so awesome.
