I am the Science lab teacher for grades Kindergarten through 5th at Eiland Elementary in Houston , Texas . I have had this position for the last 8 years and prior to this position taught 1st and 2nd grade . This is my 16th year of teaching at this school. I am an English Major but grew to love Science and sharing it with children when I taught preschool in a private school. I truly love my job as messy as it can be some days! I receive such joy seeing the excitement of my students that exploring in the lab and Science class brings. I am so excited to be able to share and receive ideas from teachers with the same passion of teaching Science.

Formative Assessment Probes: Talking About Shadows
Fri, Dec 30, 2016 9:33 PM Very Helpful!
I loved the idea of the Friendly talk and having students choose a statement to agree with This get students talking and justifying answers before they do the investigation . As a teacher , you can see the misconceptions and problems with vocabulary as well. Students then revisit the question after investigation and justify their answers. I plan on trying this in one of the 4th grade classes soon. .
Moon Phases and Models
Fri, Dec 30, 2016 9:13 PM Way to use Trade Books
I was hoping for some new way to model the moon phases and really did not find that but the article was still beneficial. It gave ways to teach at different levels using 2 different trade books. I like the way the lesson started out with a book and students misconceptions were addressed as well.
