Hi,
I had a class when someone introduced me to a lesson, she went to lowes and brought PVC pipes one was a straight pipe then she brought two semi circle pipes and glued the three pieces together to where it looked like a phone (the old school phones) the kids would say something and hear their voice echo the words back to them it was awesome. Hope you use it.

Hello,
I agree with you compelety, schools have forgotten the essential reason for their existance "To Educate" schools are all consumed with computer data, and tests. Science is one of those topics where many times a computer won't justify the answer. I think more teachers should speak up for more science in a classroom. I remember when I first t...

Plants as Our Food Source:Elementary Collection

Great Collection
The collection is a great resource for teachers who are planning to teach students on sustainability. I am currently looking for ideas on introducing my students to learning about the foods we eat, where they come from, and how we get them. This collection has a board range of topics that relate to the lessons I want to teach to my students. The order of the collection is also great with articles starting from the garden to what happens to our bodies when we eat. Learning about the different nutrients and what they do to our bodies is also great. Then the article on what happens to the food as we eat it is a great way to examine the breakdown of foods we eat, and how they benefit our bodies. I like the articles picked in this collection especially the "project produce" article. I also like the break down of the foods during the different seasons that we produce, and how to teach students about seasonal foods. I like the way we can explore foods from garden to table exploring all sides of our foods. A lot of children don't really understand where their food comes from and this collection is a great breakdown of the mystery for the students.

Plant Activity
I really enjoyed this article about the seed cycle. I am planning on doing a lesson with my students on plants and seeds, basically how plants start from seed. I really like the activity that was in this article it was very detailed and well thought out. I will use a lot of the different activities with my lesson. I like how the author explored all possibilities of the seed outcomes. The seeds that grow in sunlight, and the seeds that grew in the dark was wonderful I never thought of exploring putting the seeds in the dark, this was great, because the students can actually see what happens if seeds don't receive sunlight. I also liked the cutting open different fruit and vegetables to see how few or many seeds they carry inside. Then to relate that to those seeds inside becoming parents of the same fruit or veggies was amazing. The whole article was good.

Great Information
I really like this Web Seminar, I wanted information on the awards and recognition. I think the speaker was very clear and explained the awards process and how to apply very well. I also enjoyed the different polls where they answered questions from viewers. I wish I could have caught the live series, so that I could have participate also I am thinking about nominating a science teacher who I think is a wonderful teacher. This series answered all of my questions and then some.
