My NSTA / Peers / Jim McDonald

Jim McDonald is a professor of Science Education at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant. Jim was raised in New Jersey and that is why he is a lifelong Yankee fan. He was an elementary teacher and middle school teacher for 10 years in Byron and Concord, CA. Jim was named Michigan Science Teachers Association College Teacher of the Year 2013. Online Schools Michigan named Jim one of the Top 25 education professors in Michigan for 2012. He teaches elementary science methods to elementary preservice teachers. He also teaches graduate courses. Jim is the faculty advisor for the NSTA preservice chapter at CMU. He is also director of the Central Michigan GEMS Education Center, which was founded in January 2005. The Center hosts workshops for teachers and preservice teachers and a Super Saturday math and science program for children ages preschool to fifth grade (three sessions twice per year).
