I think using dramatic play is a great idea! Although they are in 1st grade, at large group time you could have them take turns "reporting" the weather to the class. You could even find a cardboard box for a camera and a microphone! Additionally, if you wanted to pull in some math you could graph the weather daily. Being from the midwest, I have many times studied monarch butterflies! In younger grades, we did activities like drawing ourselves as butterflies, and various crafts of that sort. My favorite way to incorporate science into pre-k settings is to do so much investigating! Using sensory tables, and going on nature walks are some of my favorites. Whenever we go on a nature walk at my daycare, the kids always come back with leaves and rocks and we take time to talk about them! THis is building their baseline knowledge for their future.
