This is a great resource that discusses the importance of vocabulary in science. I love how the article starts out by saying vocabulary needs to be taught so that students can use it to communicate. Often, teachers push students to memorize and all they can do as a result is simple regurgitate it. The food chain lesson discussed in the article seems like a great lesson to use. It allows for engaging exploration followed by oral discussion, written work, and the reading of informational texts. Students are able to hear the vocabulary words in different contexts as well as practice using them.
