This article focuses on the concept of failure specifically at the elementary level. When students think of failure, they immediately connect a negative aspect to it. By introducing the concept of failure and how to view positively rather than negatively, this can be very effective for students. The article stated how failure should be thought of as a learning process. This concept will continue to carry through students' lives, and it will be important for them to know how to handle it. The article provides various strategies and techniques to introduce the concept of failure in the classroom and how to overcome it. Teachers can ask open-ended questions to students to get them to start thinking about other strategies to better their ideas. Scaffolding will be beneficial for students to think aloud with their teacher and involve students in problem-solving discussions. I found this article to be important especially for teachers at the elementary level to learn about failure. From past experiences, I have seen how failure can be difficult for students to grasp. Even myself, I have had a hard time overcoming failures that have erupted in my life. By introducing this concept at the elementary level and by guiding students through the process, this will alleviate those frustrations students face when it comes to failures. One quote that stood out to me from the article is "..they are able to turn failures into opportunities." It is an opportunity for students to learn from a failure and to keep modifying their ideas to ultimately reach their goal. As a future teacher, I see myself implementing these ideas into my own classroom. I want my students to learn from failures and to know that it happens to everyone even teachers. By not being discouraged from failures, students will prosper and become better students.
