Dissect Your Squid and Eat It Too!

Studying an organism that lives in the ocean lends itself to many multidisciplinary studies, such as writing poetry about sea creatures, graphing fish harvests, and learning about cultures that depend heavily on the sea. As part of a study about coral reefs, the author has her students dissect squid. You will find that this is an easy and highly motivating dissection that many students will remember fondly. It promotes cooperation between lab partners, encourages scientific curiosity, and helps students to see the connection between science and a real life application—eating!
