This author quotes Frank Smith, who promotes “creating the urge to know” among children. The knowledge “has to be sucked into the brain, not pushed into the brain. First you have to create a state of mind which craves knowledge.” This author created an activity for local children that accomplished this....taking photos of local animals. He gives precise directions on how to set up a camera to accomplish this. After getting lots of interesting animal pictures the students wrote creative stories about them. In order to accomplish this photo task students did a lot of problem solving. This is an all round interesting and informative article.
