This article gave a great example of how to incorporate literacy with science. It also poses some statements for the reader to think about, such as reasons why students tend to not see the important bridge that can occur between science and literacy, especially when it comes to writing and communication. In this article, a specific example of a classroom project done over a significant period of time is laid out for the reader with an overview of what the project was and the time frame the project was broken into. The multigenre lab report option given to the students, which is described throughout the article with specific guidelines shared with the reader, was a wonderful idea to make the writing of the lab report about the science project to be fun, creative, and helped to meet whatever style the student or group of students chose to express themselves. This article included some specific assessment tools that can be used throughout the specific project discussed, which would be helpful to any teacher wanting to try this multigenre writing in their science classroom.

After attending a virtual conference: "Connecting Literacy and Science with NGSS and Common Core", I started looking for additional resources to supplement my initial knowledge. This article was an excellent way to do this. The author was very clear in describing what she wanted her students to communicate to show their knowledge of the concept. She provided several possible choices that her students could use. The examples that she provided were from her students work to clarify what was expected from them. The rubric that is provided is very easy to use and quite comprehensive. The only problem I see is the amount of time it takes to complete this activity. Other than that, I feel that this article can help a teacher trying to find a different way to assess their students that involves writing.
