The teacher took pictures locally and while on a vacation to the other side of the country to use to enhance lessons in her class. I have found that students seem to relate to pictures more if they know the person who took them and the subjects seem more "real" to them as I have also used pictures from trips in my classes. However, I think that students could be even more engaged if they took their own pictures, now that cameras on phones, MP3 players, and regular cameras are now commonly available. Integrating visuals with actual artifacts is also encouraged and a good idea based on research.

This educator uses a digital camera to collect images for a digital field trip to view local geology instead of just referring to a location. This was done during the summer and vacation time. When paired with a guiding question this educator plans to use these PowerPoint’s to enhance her Earth and environmental science programs. This sounds like a good plan to make learning a more personal experience.
