Introducing a science lesson through literature is a great approach to engage students. Using a short story as a starting point for students can lead to learning about a specific species or event. This can then lead to students creating an original story that with in itself teaches something about a specific topic. That is what this article is all about. Writing in science does not have to be only writing the typical lab report. In the Common Core State Standards for Literacy in Science writing is an essential part of student development. This article is a good approach to developing essential skills of any learner.
