This article is great for students who are learning about photosynthesis. They will also learn how to piece together that air is a combination of many gases including carbon dioxide, and hydrogen is combined with CO2 which allows glucose to be made. I would use this resource in my future when teaching photosynthesis.

I used this idea with my 7th graders. I eliminated some of the facts in order to simplify it a bit and created two "clues" that I gave to groups that were stuck. The students were more engaged once we discussed the specifics of photosynthesis because they wanted to see if they were "right". I recommend this.

From there, students will need to make generalizations about the process of photosynthesis. This uses a social-constructivist context that would have studnets working in groups to develop meaning. Should be a high yield educational activity. The author further explains that she uses the same process with other hard to do investigations/activity topics.
