Professional development can take many forms. One unusual approach recommended by the author is participation in NSTA's futuristic science event, ExploraVision. It requires teams of students to investigate a problem and then develop an invention to solve that problem using technology that will not be available for 20 years. This requires students to think outside the box and envision the world of the future.
