A third grade teacher wanted to learn what science understandings her students had gained as well as to help them improve their writing skills. She created what she called a “Nature’s Advice Book” in an effort to integrate science, language arts, and art lessons. This article chronicles the process she used to help her students achieve their goals. Learning through integration is a great way to reinforce learning.

The pieces of writing that are produced during this activity could easily be adapted to school or class newsletters, ideas for writing contests, or personal essay practice.
