This author uses science fiction short stories to engage students in the learning of astronomy. These were read aloud during class and each student was required to answer guided questions. Students were asked to explore the science connect in the stories to the facts and knowledge of astronomy today. Upon completion of the short story activities students selected one of four novels to explore vocabulary and science content. The author provides a suggested reading list. This article, written for the middle school level, was interesting. I can see using the short stories in the classroom but I am not so sure about the novels for this age group when considering the diverse population in urban middle schools today.

The author presents a solid case for integrating science fiction literature into the science curriculum and provides a workable plan for using science fiction as a supplemental text. Students will enjoy the opportunity to make connections through literature. Most of the examples provide connections to astronomy; examples to other science disciplines are not included, nor is a sample lesson plan.
