This article was written when the TV series CSI was just beginning and people were just becoming aware of and interested in this field. Jason Birchfield studied criminal science in college and at the time of this article he was a forensic supervisor for the Baltimore County Police Department Crime Scene Unit. As a Forensic Science Technician (FST) his job pretty much mirrors what is seen on the TV now with perhaps less glamour than one sees on TV. From his experience he points out that more cases are solved through latent prints.
