The suggestions made throughout the article make studying the ocean possible everywhere, even a land-bound state like Kansas. The buoy data is an excellent resource as it provides real-time data that can easily be coupled to other sites like the National Hurricane Center. My students particularly like the buoy cams. I am excited to use the DATAs that are suggested in the article. A note for others looking for these activities: the website listed in the article is an old link. Using real time data brings the 21st century into your classroom. Oceans.US integrates two other sources of ocean information into a structure that can provide full access to ocean observing data to scientists, educators and the general public regardless where you are in the world. The authors also talks about the Bridge Ocean Sciences Resource Center that makes suggestions for integrating observing system data products into the classroom. The article briefly features a few oceans observing system data for the read to look at. This seems like a win-win situation but the learner might experience a sharper learning curve the first time the data is used with students.
