This article is an interesting look at an initiative from Portugal called “Portuguese Inquiry-Based Science Initiative.” This collaborative exists between an institution in Lisbon with a educators from Pennsylvania. This was started in 2005 and was still going on when this article was published in 2010. The article outlines what this student entails but more importantly what has resulted from this collaborative experience between teachers from two different countries.

The premise behind this PD structure is to build capacity by training a small cohort of teachers to become leaders and train other teachers. This is similar to what is done in many PD programs around the country. I felt like the follow up suggestions for teachers who want to become better science teachers and leaders were very generic and not necessarily representative of the experience written about in the article.
