This practical article looks at seven areas that a teacher needs to consider to be able to teach science through inquiry. Is your classroom a teacher centered or student centered environment, does inquiry go with the science standards, and other questions are ones a teacher should look at to make sure their student’s learning experiences fall somewhere on the inquiry spectrum.

This brief commentary provides an excellent list of things teachers should consider before implementing inquiry based instruction. You must believe before you leap; believe in inquiry and believe in yourself. Lacking belief, success is not possible. And in addition to belief, you will need support. So once you believe, get the support of your peers and administration and plan your lessons carefully. Personally, I find a 5E lesson plan approach perfectly suited for the design of inquiry based lessons.
