Most of us are familiar with the books titled ‘Last Child in the Woods’ and ‘The Nature Principle.’ As this author points out that with the advent of every child having access to a computer there is less time outside of the classroom in the real world. As the author points out exposure to real natural environments “stimulates the senses, improves the ability to learn, and helps students connect the dots of the world.” He further points out that research shows a definite improvement in other disciplines when students are exposed to nature first-hand and not through third party gadgets. This article is a call to arms that all science educators must read.

This article has presented an interesting challenge. More investigation is needed in how being outdoors effects student performance. I agree with this author. Just go outdoors on a nice clear day, take a deep breath and see how you feel!!
