This article describes the authors attempt to get eighth grade students more involved with science. He assigns weekend labs where students enter into discourse with fellow classmates and/or parents. The authors cite several advantages such as building student confidence by using their science skills in a familiar environment, and parents experience positive interactions with their teenagers that the home labs initiate. The article includes a ‘home lab evaluation.’ This is an interesting idea that uses simple equipment.
