As a preservice teacher, this article is extremely helpful. It walks you through common problems/issues in an inquiry-based classroom. Not only does it tell you what the issues can be, it gives you suggestions on how to overcome the issues or even completely avoid them altogether. This article also gives the reader helpful strategies and procedures that can be implemented in the classroom in order to help your inquiry-based classroom run more smoothly. I really appreciate that the issues, strategies, and procedures discussed in this article can be helpful in any inquiry-based classroom, not just science.

This article gives a myriad number of ideas for overcoming obstacles to inquiry-based learning. It is a great resource for any teacher wanting to get away from lectures, reading the text, and note taking. In my own experience, I found it was best to have containers with all the materials for an activity placed on the tables before the students arrived in class. The students knew they were not to touch anything until given permission or directions. This took some organization but it pays off in the long run. One thing I did to reduce teacher time was to ask for student volunteers to help me organize after school. After they saw what they were going to be doing, they shared this with other students who got excited even before coming to class the next day.
