Great Lesson Ideas!

I added this article to my collection because I wanted to extend my knowledge about energy. This month, I am going to teach a lesson involving forms of energy and I will need to know how to plan it effectively. The article was very eye-opening for me because it refreshed my memory and informed me of the ways I could teach my students about energy. For instance, it includes five lessons that educators can integrate in their classroom instruction. As I planned my STEM lesson, I used an idea from the article that mentioned the importance of allowing students to explore energy by examining toys. During my lesson, students will rotate to different stations to investigate energy. One station will have a toy dog that can be moved with a string, allowing the children to be hands-on as they learn. I feel like I would use this article for future lessons because it includes various hands-on activities that allow children to learn by doing. It also emphasizes the importance of using movement and real-world experiences to help students learn the material. Many of my elementary teachers did not use these strategies in the science classroom, which made it challenging for me to make sense of everything. If they had implemented these strategies, I would have been engaged and understood the content better. On the other hand, I think the article should have included a list of books that could be used to teach students about energy. This would have been a great way to include reading instruction into the lesson as well! Overall, I am glad I came across this article and I am excited to use these strategies in my future classroom!
