I often have these same concerns in mind as a student teacher who will be graduating soon. Thankfully, parents have been very welcoming and supportive. Many have nothing but will wishes and excitement that their child gets to learn from someone with lots of new ideas. I hope I will be able to say the same during my first year with my own classroom. Lots of great ideas were introduced in this discussion! As a pre-service teacher I think this has been one of my biggest fears throughout student teaching. Transitions between activities in a given lesson seem to eat up a ton of time some days. Implementing small groups and voice levels are strategies I have seen many times. I think allowing students time to tinker with given objects before you actually get into the lesson will lower the playfulness and distraction students may have.
