I say the best thing to do to prepare for a subject is to look it over in advance. Look at different websites and meet with science teachers in your future school and ask if you can see examples of lessons that you may be teaching this next year. Practicing and liking a subject takes time and effort. Students can tell when their teacher does not like a subject or does not understand it either....

I think the hardest thing about teaching is sometimes the lack of resources. In some school districts, you want to go all out and take students on science trips that they would enjoy, but without the resources, engaging students seems hard.

I think the best way to keep students engaged in any subject is to give them hands-on experiences! Don't just talk about how a leaf should look, take your students outside and have them collect leaves and draw them on paper and have them describe it. Any lesson that you can have kids moving and excited, try it!
