I have always enjoyed studying cells and cell structure. This book brings the topic to life even more. I am reminded of all I learned in school and learned some new material as well. It started with the basics and went further and further in depth and detail. The interactive demonstrations, explanations, and questions to ensure thorough understanding are so informative. Although they are useful for everyone, they would be so helpful to those with reading comprehension difficulty. Seeing things makes them so much easier to understand and relate to. You really see how complex the body is, how easy it would be for something to go wrong, and how amazing it is that somehow it all just works. I had some pauses and glitches in the fourth section on proteins, but it may have been my connection. I could see students enjoying this type of lesson and retaining the information long after it is finished.

This e-book was a great refresher of my existing knowledge of the structure of cells and their functions. This course can help teachers to build a greater understanding of cells so they are more prepared for when they go to teach their students. I feel like I am more prepared to teach students about cells than I was before this e-book, because it had been a long time since I've reviewed this information.

This book contained so much information on cell structures and their functions. It started with the simplest basic information about cells, and then it went into depth on each component of both plant and animal cells. It talked about molecules and the process of protein synthesis. It lets you have a better understanding of how DNA is formed and how to match the amino acids with their correct match. When making connections to the real world, it was very thought out. It compared a factory with a cell and how the different components of a factory were similar to the working components of a cell. For me, this was important because, as educators, we are taught to make real-world connections with what we are teaching within our classrooms. The interactive part was so much fun, and it was very engaging to complete. I would use this book in my classroom when I am supposed to cover Cells.

This book contained all of the basics of cell biology and had a great deal of useful information, such as in-depth explanations of protein synthesis. This book was interesting, short, well-written and had a lot of great pictures. I really enjoyed the slideshow and I felt motivated to learn more about cell biology. Cells are fascinating and I realized I still love biology! The book was challenging and it had a lot of examples that are useful for writing lesson plans. It clearly displayed the standards and demonstrated webs or nets for organizing information that could be presented in a single lesson. It was engaging. This is a very useful book for teachers.

Before reading this e-book, I felt that I had a pretty good knowledge of cells, but after reading, I realized that there was so much that I did not know. This e-book was an in-depth dive into the topic of cells, erupting with much more information than I could have ever imagined. Throughout my reading, I found myself using the mini quizzes embedded to check my understanding, and I found that I was learning and gaining more content knowledge! Overall, I would recommend this e-book to any educator wanting to become more knowledgeable about cells and their functions.

This e-book really helped refresh my knowledge of cells. I was even able to learn a lot of information I had never encountered before. This e-book dove deeper into amino acids and the translation process than any biology course I've taken. I really enjoyed reading it and interacting with it. I enjoyed that the e-book included hands-on activities to try as well!

I thought this e-book helped refresh my knowledge of cells and I was about to dive deeper into the topic. I think this e-book is beneficial for educators to understand cells better if they are unfamiliar with the topic. The embedded quizzes helped me check my understanding of the readings and helped me prepare for the final assessment. Overall, I gained a ton of content knowledge about cells and their function.

I chose to dive into this E-Book because I was curious about what resources I could find related to cell structure and function. I think this E-Book was full of interesting and relevant information that can be useful for teachers and students. I liked the interactive aspects of the book. This e-book was very helpful! I think this is a SUPER educational resource for middle and high schoolers. I recognized a lot of the information in the e-book but also learned new things as well. I feel like this would be a really great additional resource for students to use and is helpful because of the sections it's broken into.

This was an informative and helpful e-book to complete! I did not realize how much I had forgotten about cells, their structure, and function until reviewing the context in this e-book! I enjoyed how interactive it was, had very engaging and bright photographs, and it I was surprised at how easy to use it was. I enjoyed taking the quizzes and doing the games as they made the learning more engaging and fun to learn about cells and their function. One draw back was when I used the "English Read Aloud" tool, I noticed the automated-voice had trouble saying quoted words or phrases and would occasionally insert "quo-" or "qwah" when trying to say "quote" and then the word or phrase it was quoting. This was distracting when following along with the book as I was reading. Another draw back was on page 89 when it was reading "Figure 73" and mentioned the hydrogen atoms were red when the image displayed white. But other than those two issues, this e-book provided great and simple details to explain what cells are, their history, structure, and function. It made the learning process very engaging and fun!

This book was super helpful. It provided a lot of details without feeling like it was bombarding you with information. The quizzes at the end of each chapter were enough to keep me on track and make me look back if I didn't get it on the first attempt. The review every couple of slides usually had a question that felt well-picked and helpful. It kept me interested the whole way and was the perfect length. My only gripe would be that some of the questions came before we were given the information, but it wouldn't be enough to knock a star off (especially because it could just be my own reading comprehension!) I definitely would recommend this E-book!

This e-Book was an enjoyable read, not only because of the plethora of information that is written on every page, but because of the interactive components that kept me engaged the entire time. My knowledge of cells and their structure and function was pretty high because of my extensive classes in high school and college, but the information I learned from this book compiles everything I knew into an easy-to-read text. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in learning about cells because of the detailed images, interactive components, and detailed information that covers every page.

Not only was this e-Book very informative and helpful for my lesson plan, it also was very enjoyable to read! I thought it was so interesting to learn all of these different things about cells, their structures, and how these structures are related to how they function. I thought I had learned everything I needed to know about cells in high school, but I learned so much more from this book. This is definitely worth the read.

If you have not yet tried e-books with your science curriculum, this is an excellent addition that you will find yourself using quite often. The NSTA e-books are developed in a way that it covers most, if not all, of your content standards. Students are engaged and interested. Each e-book includes videos, activities, review questions, and quizzes. What I love about this e-book is its ability to make the "invisible" visible. Before using this resources I had clips and video link everywhere. I would go back and forth to try and provide a visual for my students. Everything you need is in this e-book! The images of cells are superb in quality. The interactive videos are highly engaging and memorable when it comes to test time. These e-books are very easy to navigate for both teacher and student. I highly recommend them.

Cell Structure and Function is one of NSTA’s new eBooks. I found it to be a well designed resource that covers four science objectives: “The Basis of Life”, “The Cellular Factory”, “The Molecular Machinery”, and “The Most Important Molecule”. This book is beautifully illustrated with photos, graphics, and images found on every page. I also appreciated the fact that all of the lessons had audio to accompany the text. Teachers will be pleased with the “Common Student Preconceptions” that are found throughout the book. This helps them understand when their students may have a different understanding of the material. There were slideshows, animations, interactive visuals, and “Hands-on-Activities”. I found the interactive simulations very useful when I needed to demonstrate a concept. This eBook also included a “Search” button that allowed me to search for information using just a few key words. And the “Check Your Thinking”, found every few pages, provided my students the opportunity to answer discussion or short answer questions in more depth. Another great feature was the “Review What You Learned”. This feature provided my students, in a multiple-choice format, the opportunity to review the concepts they had just covered. As an assessment, a quiz is included at the end of each Science Objective. At the end of the book, teachers will find the correlation of the new NGSS standards, Science for All Americans, and Benchmarks for Science Literacy are discussed. I highly recommend this book to educators and students wanting an excellent and proven means to learn the content needed for curriculum and instruction about Cell Structures and Functions.

I think that the pacing and formatting for this book were laid out in a really clear and sensible way. Each of the concepts built upon the previous ones and made sense with how they were connected. I think this was a great snapshot into learning about life and cells. My favorite section was Section 3 - The Molecular Machinery for Life. This section dove deeper into the inner workings of cells and what they need to do what they do. It talked about water and how everything about it, its charge and structure, makes it the perfect universal solvent to help cells more easily absorb nutrients. Some fun projects that could be done with this unit are making a model of a cell with clay, or, with older age groups, you could show them what osmosis (water moving through cell membranes) does by letting different objects like potatoes or eggs sit in sugar or salt water solutions. This was a fun unit that I cannot wait to teach someday.

This E-book provided me with a review on cells and helped to refresh my knowledge. As a student and preservice teacher myself, I am constantly trying to remember information so that I am giving my students the best learning experience. By keeping my own knowledge up to date, I am able to do this. The knowledge checks and quizzes throughout this E-book gave me the reviews and tests of my knowledge I needed. As you read this, make sure you understand the key concepts before moving on and completing the concluding quiz. Additionally, know that when you pass that concluding quiz, there are no more attempts to get a better score.

This is a good resource to teach students about the structure and function of cells however it is wordy at times, there were a few sections I had to read over more than once. The pictures were very helpful and kept the book engaging, they also provided good visuals that helped me understand some of the concepts that weren't as easy to understand. I found the chapter quiz's very useful for helping me recall the big ideas that I had read in the previous chapter. When I got to the final assessment I felt as though the questions were a good representation of everything I had read in the book. There weren't a ton of questions so not all of the big concepts were covered however the questions came from a variety of places throughout the book. The information and visuals in this textbook could be used to plan a variety of engaging science lessons.

First, the layout and presentation of this e-book is beautiful and full of great and useful information. If helped me organize how I will teach these topics. The way I used it with my students is by showing the graphics in class and then used the accompanying questions to see if they got it. It is another visual way to add to the diversity of teaching tools to try and engage our students.
