Payton, I think an excellent way to relate this to students lives is to show them animals they would see in their community. I personally would start with the SUn, then move to plants, then cows. After cows, I would move to humans as we eat cows frequently for burgers and other meats. I think that this would show the students how the food webs relates back to us.
