Hi Mary, I think that the best way to transform a lesson is by making it hands-on. When science is hands-on, students tend to remember the class and the lesson more. Also, I would recommend working on interesting attention getters (sets) before starting a lesson to really introduce the topic in a fun, interactive, and exciting way. Sincerely, Ashley Gibson

Hi Carolina, I think a great way to engage students in a science lesson is by making them feel like real scientists. I think that if you give them real data, observational activities, and cool science tools, the students would see exactly how fun science can be. Sink or Float, Elem. - Taylor Andollo Collection

Amazing and Helpful!

Collection: Sink or Float Author of Collection: Taylor Andollo I personally loved the collection titled Sink or Float, by Taylor Andollo. The collection was filled with best practices that could be of great use to anyone in the Early Childhood Profession. Also, the prompt of asking students to determine what will sink or float, is a great way to generate a discussion amongst students and have them engage in critical thinking. Even though all of the articles were inciteful and fascinating, my favorite article was Will it Sink or Float, by Christine Anne Royce. In this article, one of the activities designed to teach about sinking and floating was the “Would it Float in a Moat” activity. The activity is designed to have students predict, test, and observe all of the different items that either float or sink, and then record the characteristics that “floating” items had in common, and the characteristics that the “sinking” items had in common. The goal is that through figuring out the similar characteristics, the students will gain further knowledge about what characteristics make an item ether sink or float. All in all, I really enjoyed this collection and will use the poem and activities within my future classroom. -Ashley Gibson
