Essential Read for Any New Teacher

wow! This article has really opened my eyes. Science education in the United States is changing. Educators change focus from simply teaching science ideas to helping students figure out phenomena and design solutions to problems. Yes students need to learn content to gain knowledge in science. But students need to actually being doing science and not just learning science- that's what the 3D instruction is! This article lets you know what they 3 dimensions of science are, when to use them and how often. I can't believe I was ever teaching science without the 3D instruction.

Crucial Reading for Any Future Teacher!

This book is amzing! it completly changed the way that I view science. It opened my eyes to a more engaging and interactive model of teaching science. I realize that by reading I fully grasp science concepts much better than I did before I read the book. I learned about the structure and process of NGSS. I can not believe that I have never heard of it until now! This book is an essential read for anyone going into the field of education.

A New Twist on Teaching Vocabulary

I enjoyed hoe this article articulated and responded to the need for students to build and use science vocabulary while engaging in NGSS. This article is about a four month long project where students gre cucumbers. Students were very active in the science process during this project. They planned, observed, investigated and researched. Students got to see a real life example of science in this interactive, hands-on activity. This unit describes using resources that may not be available to everyone (like a greenhouse). But the good news is the project can be recreated in a smaller environment.
